Pupillage at Garden Court North for 2017

GCN Chambers will be recruiting through the Pupillage Gateway this year for the 2016 competition for pupillage to start in October 2017.

Intending applicants are advised to look through our chambers website to get an idea of the sort of work we do before deciding whether to apply.

Those who do wish to apply should do so using the Pupillage Gateway website which allows applications to be made by 4th May 2016.

Interviews for pupillage for 2016 will be held in chambers in Manchester in two rounds in late June / early July 2016. We anticipate that we will be able to notify those selected for interview in early June.

Apply now for 2017 pupillage via the Pupillage Gateway

*** PLEASE NOTE THE PUPILLAGE GATEWAY WEBSITE CARRIES THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE FOR APPLICATIONS FOR PUPILLAGE TO BE MADE IN 2017: "After consultation, the decision has been made to bring forward the Pupillage Gateway timetable from April to January. This change will commence in 2017."

About us

Chambers is strongly committed to publicly funded work on behalf of individuals who have suffered discrimination or other hardship. We specialise in criminal, housing, immigration and employment law although at present pupillage will not be offered in criminal or employment law. We also cover civil actions against the police, prison law, public law (including Judicial Review), community care, mental health and education law. In all areas of our work we have a particular interest in cases with civil liberties and human rights implications.

About you

We are looking for pupils who are attracted by the ethos of chambers and who wish to specialise in or are interested in these areas of work. In particular we are looking for candidates who are committed to the ethos of these chambers and who are able to demonstrate that commitment through their activities.

What we offer

We will discuss with successful applicants the area(s) of law that they have a particular interest in and, where possible will ensure that they can cover those areas during pupillage. It is however important to treat pupillage as an opportunity to gain experience in more than one specialist area of law to give pupils a better chance of building a successful practice.

We have modern premises in the centre of Manchester and can offer high quality training to those who share our commitment to our principles in a friendly and informal atmosphere. We are offering two 12 month pupillages for October 2017 with awards of £17,000 each. Applications are to be made through the Pupillage Portal. In the second 6 months pupils can expect to be very busy and to be in court several days each week.
